Last year I took the ceramics class at my school. It was really fun! This is one of the things I made from that class. The funny part is that we didn't have an actual teacher for that class, just the same sub for the whole year. Despite the fact that he didn't know anything about ceramics or clay he learn how to do things so the class would work. I really appreciated that, especially since it was my senior year, because I was there to learn how to make things.
This piece was one of the last things I made in that class and I really like how it turned out, even though it was messed up. When it was being fired another piece exploded in the kiln and the bits of clay stuck to my piece. Instead of completely ruining it, I think it adds to the space and stars theme. In the end that mistake turned out to help my piece.
I really like this thing because it reminds me of where I started in my art journey. I made this in elementary school. It was a project to get us thinking about what we wanted to be when we grew up. On the back I wrote "My hope or dream is to be a... artist". I remember coloring the airplane in and thinking I was so smart for coloring inside the lines and creating the feeling that the airplane was actually flying with how I drew the front propellor. It makes me so proud to look at it because I know my younger self would think it was so cool that I'm now going to an art school. It's just a nice reminder of how I was when I was little.
One of my biggest inspirations is the shows I watch. The thing that really got me into drawing is wanting to recreate characters in the shows I watched in middle school. Things like Star Wars, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Avatar the Last Airbender, and so many more things led me to start drawing things from them and then creating my own characters to go in those shows. Over time I think I moved away from that a bit, so I don't do that much anymore. I still have those shows to thank for fueling my imagination, because that led me to want to create my own characters and my own stories.
